Film crews have returned to Liverpool city centre this week for a new Channel 4 series, believed to be Army of Shadows. Road closures were in place on Union Street and Old Hall Street on August 25, with signs warning passers-by of filming taking place.
Road closures and diversions
Teams were set up in the town hall in July, and today road closures were in operation on Union Street and Old Hall Street. Diversions were in place, with closures running until 7pm. Businesses remained open as usual throughout the filming.
Crews were set up outside Starbucks on Old Hall Street, where camera equipment was visible. Parking suspension signs were also displayed on Old Hall Street.
Cast and production details
The series is inspired by Joseph Kessel's book of the same name, a fictionalised account of the French Resistance during WWII. The six-part series has been adapted by Ronan Bennett, known for his work on Top Boy, MobLand and Day of the Jackal.
The French WWII setting has been changed for the upcoming show, which will take place in an authoritarian version of the UK in the near future. The series stars Paddy Considine, America Ferrera, Alex Hassell and Kit Harington. Lisa Gunning will direct all six episodes.
Liverpool has become the most sought-after filming location in the UK outside of London, having attracted productions such as Batman, Harry Potter and Peaky Blinders over the years. Last week, crews were spotted filming for the BBC drama Legacy of Spies, and camera crews were also in operation in Exchange Flags over the weekend for the BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.
