Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is receiving a significant upgrade over the 2013 original, introducing a feature borrowed from the RPG-oriented entries in the series. The new addition is a fully customisable HUD, enhancing the pirate simulator for modern audiences.
Customisable HUD Options
In a detailed post on Reddit, the developer explained how players can tailor their HUD in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced to suit their playstyle. Options range from leaving all elements enabled for maximum information to disabling everything for a fully immersive experience. Four presets are available:
- Default – Enables most HUD elements for maximum clarity, ideal for clear guidance, button prompts, and combat feedback.
- Simple – A pared-down HUD that removes some reminders and highlights while still providing enough feedback for combat and navigation.
- Minimal – Displays only essential information such as Edward's health, interaction prompts, and cannon aiming arcs aboard the Jackdaw.
- Disabled – Removes nearly all HUD elements for a fully immersive experience, relying on player awareness and timing.
Players can also toggle individual elements, such as turning off parry indicators to rely on enemy animations for timing.
Combat Overhaul
Ubisoft provided further details on the combat system, which has been fully overhauled compared to the original game. Enemies now possess a Defense bar indicating their resistance to attacks. Edward must deplete this bar to deliver more effective blows. A visual cue, such as an enemy's headpiece falling off, indicates a broken defense for players who disable the UI.
Despite these RPG-inspired additions, Ubisoft emphasised that Black Flag Resynced remains an action-adventure game. The health and defense bars are optional, and there are no levels, gear scores, or progression gates. Combat functions similarly to the original game.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is set for release on July 9, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
