Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Sales Success Boosts Remake Hopes
Black Flag Remake Sales Success Boosts Future Remakes

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has achieved a major sales milestone just one week after its launch, selling over 3 million copies. Ubisoft announced the news on social media, stating: “Special thanks to all of you for playing and sharing tall tales about your Caribbean adventures.” The original Black Flag is estimated to have sold over 15 million copies lifetime, making it one of the best-selling games in the series, surpassing even Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood.

Strong Sales Signal Bright Future for Remakes

If the remake continues its current trajectory, it could become the best-selling Assassin's Creed game outright. However, the success is bittersweet for Ubisoft Barcelona staff who were laid off shortly after the game's launch. The milestone bodes well for the franchise's future, as the remake's performance on the Anvil engine is likely to inspire confidence in remaking other classic entries.

Rumors of Original Assassin's Creed Remake

A remake of the original 2007 Assassin's Creed, featuring Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad during the Third Crusade, has been rumored for years. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson said on a podcast: “There is another Assassin's Creed remake in the works – one of the earlier ones. And based on Black Flag, they'll revisit the series, and see what other remakes they can do.” With the series' 20th anniversary approaching at the end of 2027, this would be an ideal release window.

Hints in Recent Titles

Ubisoft has already hinted at revamped mechanics from the original game in recent Anvil Engine titles. Black Flag Resynced brought back social stealth, as did 2023's Mirage. While Ubisoft has not confirmed any other full remakes, the next mainline entry is Hexe, set during the Holy Roman Witch Trials in 17th century Germany, targeting a 2027 release date that could slip.
