British Airways has confirmed that passengers on its flights will not be able to watch the England vs Argentina World Cup semi-final match live due to legal restrictions. The airline responded to a query from fitness expert Joe Wicks on X (formerly Twitter), who asked if he could watch the England match during his flight.
BA's response to Joe Wicks
Joe Wicks, known as "The Body Coach," posted: "Hey @British_Airways will I be able to watch the @England match on my flight tomorrow?" British Airways replied: "Hi Joe, for legal reasons we're unable to stream live sporting events, unfortunately. However, I'm sure the crew will keep you informed of the score throughout your flight." The airline added: "We're sure the crew will be just as eager to keep an eye on events. Have a safe flight."
Match details and security measures
England faces Argentina in the semi-finals at the 67,382-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, USA. Around 30,000 England supporters are expected to attend, while up to 25 million viewers will watch on TV in the UK. The match has been classified as the "highest risk in the tournament" by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), prompting extra security measures. Hundreds of additional police have been deployed in Atlanta, with some bars designated as "England only" or "Argentina only" to prevent confrontations.
Michael Owen's prediction
Former England striker Michael Owen commented on the tournament, writing on X: "Brilliant performance from Spain. France had the individual stars but this Spanish team never looked like getting beat. England or Argentina will have to up their game massively to beat this lot."
