Arsenal Revive Interest in £78m Nico Williams, Keeper to Leave

Arsenal are reportedly set to revive their interest in a £78m World Cup winger this summer, while a young goalkeeper is set to leave after rejecting a new contract offer.

Nico Williams Interest Rekindled

Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Athletic Club winger Nico Williams. The Spanish star penned an astonishing 10-year contract with the La Liga outfit last year, which increased his release clause to €90million (£78m), reports the Mirror.

However, TEAMtalk reports the north London outfit regard Williams as among their leading attacking priorities this summer. The 23-year-old has been in their sights since summer 2024, and that enthusiasm has persisted despite his disappointing displays this campaign.

Williams is believed to be weighing up his alternatives ahead of what could prove a crucial summer. Sources near the player have allegedly told Arsenal and other keen suitors that he would welcome the chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

For the Gunners, this follows Juventus turning down their bid for Kenan Yildiz and Barcelona securing another target in Anthony Gordon. This could lead to their attention switching completely towards luring Williams to the Emirates Stadium.

Youngster Turns Down Contract Offer

Goalkeeper Alexei Rojas is poised to depart Arsenal after turning down fresh terms with the club. The 20-year-old keeper was included by the Gunners amongst the 15 players from the academy, senior squad or women's side who will be departing after June 30.

This comes despite the Premier League publishing a comprehensive list of retained players from all 20 top-flight clubs which confirmed that Rojas had been offered new terms, as was reported in his homeland Colombia approximately a week ago.

Rojas' exit comes as little shock, considering he featured in just a small number of matches for Arsenal's U21s. He did, however, find himself included in the Arsenal senior squad back in November when they defeated Slavia Prague 3-0 on the road during the Champions League group phase.
