Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed confidence in the UK's post-Brexit future during a meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May at Downing Street on Thursday. Cook stated he is 'very optimistic' about the country's prospects, adding, 'We think you’ll be just fine.'
The iPhone maker is set to open a new UK headquarters at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station, relocating 1,600 employees to the south London site in 2021. Apple said its innovation and growth now support nearly 300,000 jobs across the UK.
Cook also met London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who tweeted he was 'delighted' to discuss talent, digital skills, and Apple's investment in London. The visit coincided with Cook receiving an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow, where he voiced opposition to US President Donald Trump's immigration ban targeting seven predominantly Muslim countries.
'If we stand and say nothing it's as if we're agreeing,' Cook said, joining other tech giants in criticising the travel restrictions. Cook has led Apple since 2011, succeeding the late Steve Jobs.
