Apple has officially announced the date of its next iPhone event, confirming that a "surprise" is on the way. The technology giant has sent invitations to the world's media, revealing that its major showcase will take place on Wednesday, September 9.
The event will be held at Apple's headquarters in California, with the invite teasing that it could be one to watch. "Surprise and shine. Please join us for a special Apple Event at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park," the invitation reads.
Foldable iPhone speculation
While Apple has not given away any details ahead of the big day, 2026 could be a monumental year for the iPhone. It is widely expected that the first-ever foldable iPhone could be shown off during the keynote in Cupertino.
Rumours suggest the iPhone Fold could adopt a passport-style design similar to Samsung's latest Galaxy Z Fold8. The outer display would be relatively narrow, but opening the device could reveal a much larger screen with a mini-tablet feel.
Whether the iPhone Fold actually makes its debut remains to be seen, but it could be joined by a more powerful iPhone 18 Pro range, with upgraded cameras and faster performance also expected. New colours could also be on the cards, potentially adding to the popular Cosmic Orange finish introduced last year.
What else to expect
One phone that may be missing from the September showcase is the standard iPhone 18. Apple is rumoured to be keeping that model on the same cycle for now, with its next major upgrade potentially arriving in spring 2027.
Apple is also expected to unveil updates to the Apple Watch and AirPods, both of which regularly receive upgrades during the company's annual iPhone event. Apple Watch fans will no doubt be hoping for a fresh design, improved health features and longer battery life.
Apple's event gets underway on September 9 at 6pm BST, and with just two weeks to wait, it is one date to have in the diary for anyone due an upgrade.
