Amazon has launched a new Fire TV Stick 4K, offering improved performance and a completely redesigned remote. The refreshed remote features a more ergonomic, curved, and weighted design, along with several new buttons.
Redesigned Remote with New Features
The home button has been upgraded to a bright orange color with a distinct metal surface, making it stand out. Amazon notes this button is pressed an average of 100 million times per day across all its Fire TV devices. Other buttons have been indented or distinctly shaped for easier touch navigation.
A new customisable star button allows users to jump directly to a favourite app or setting with one press. This feature was previously only available on Amazon's premium Pro remote. The remote also retains quick access keys for apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and Prime Video.
Performance and Design Upgrades
The new Fire TV Stick 4K provides full access to 4K streams and is up to 40 percent faster than rival devices, leading to quicker app launches and more fluid menu scrolling. It has a slimmer form factor, takes up less space behind TVs, and can be powered via the TV's USB port, eliminating the need for a mains plug.
The device runs on Amazon's latest Vega operating system, replacing Android, and comes with Alexa+ and the new Fire TV experience out of the box. It includes 8 GB internal storage, a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, and support for Wi-Fi 6 to reduce buffering.
