New comprehensive research has uncovered that an overwhelming 76 per cent of trades professionals now utilise AI technology in some capacity every single day to manage their businesses more effectively.
Digital Dependency Grows Among Construction Professionals
The construction sector demonstrates particularly strong adoption rates, with 73 per cent of builders reporting daily AI usage, closely followed by electricians at 71 per cent and plumbers at 63 per cent. Remarkably, 35 per cent of builders acknowledge they would encounter significant difficulties performing their jobs without these emerging digital tools, highlighting a growing technological dependency within the industry.
Engineers lead all professions with an extraordinary 91 per cent daily AI adoption rate, while hairdressers and beauty suppliers also show impressive uptake at 71 per cent. The research further indicates that tradespeople who operate their own businesses demonstrate higher AI engagement than administrative staff, with 58 per cent of sole traders incorporating artificial intelligence into their daily workflows.

The most prevalent uses of AI within trade businesses include record keeping, embraced by 23 per cent of respondents, and payment chasing, utilised by 17 per cent. Builders specifically leverage the technology for material cost calculations, with nearly one third employing AI for this purpose, while 43 per cent of electricians use digital platforms to communicate directly with customers.
Builders emerge as the most frequent users of AI technology, with one in five admitting to accessing AI platforms more than five times daily. The data, compiled by business software provider Sage, reveals that 43 per cent of tradespeople employ digital tools to streamline administrative tasks including record keeping, invoicing, and tax filing, significantly reducing the burdens associated with late payments and financial management.

Stuart Bogazzi, proprietor of Oak Sure Construction based in Croydon, South London, provides compelling testimony about AI's transformative impact: "AI has made my life considerably easier - I typically use it four days out of five. Digital tools prove exceptionally helpful for complex calculations. I simply input spatial measurements, and the system determines precise concrete requirements while identifying the most cost-effective suppliers. Bogazzi continues: "I rely on Sage digital tools for approximately 90 per cent of my accounting functions. Their Sole Trader mobile application manages all bookkeeping and taxation records, while the Payments Agent tool generates invoices and pursues overdue payments.
