Over 30,000 Football Manager Fans Apply for FM27 Early Access in 24 Hours
30,000+ Apply for FM27 Early Access in 24 Hours

More than 30,000 players submitted applications for Football Manager 27's alpha playtesting within the first day of the sign-up window going live, Sports Interactive has confirmed.

Despite the overwhelming response, the studio has made clear that the vast majority of those who applied will not be selected. Senior Community Manager Chris Groves delivered the reality check in an official forum post, stating that only a "small portion of the pool of folks who sign up" will receive an invitation to the FM27 alpha playtest.

Applicants to Be Notified by Email

Groves assured every applicant they will be kept informed. "Everyone who has registered will receive an email letting you know if you've been added to the playtest, so you won't be left in the dark," he confirmed.

Sports Interactive is targeting September for the playtest to begin, according to The Mirror. Groves explained that the team is eager to launch with sufficient lead time to properly gather and act on tester feedback before the game's release, but stressed that the development build must first reach the right internal state, even accounting for the bugs and rough edges typical of a pre-launch version.

Balancing Feedback Quantity and Quality

The reasoning behind limiting access tightly comes down to practicality. Groves explained: "The aim is to balance the need to gather a large range of feedback/opinions, with the need to ensure it's at a manageable volume, so that feedback can actually go through our internal process and be actioned by the team."

He added: "Finding that balance between quantity and quality is the best way for this playtest to create a positive outcome for FM27, which is what we all want!"

No Wrong Answers in Survey

A wave of anxiety had been building among applicants over the sign-up survey, with many fans worrying that their answers could harm their chances of being selected. Groves moved quickly to put those fears to rest, clarifying that no single set of answers carries more weight than another.

He added: "A key goal of this playtest is to gather feedback from testers with a wide range of different experiences and preferences for FM. There isn't a selection of answers that make you more or less likely to be invited in, because we need that variance in viewpoints to get a balanced and unbiased slate of feedback."

Groves also expressed appreciation on behalf of the studio as he thanked the community for the overwhelming response. He called the level of interest a boost for the whole team as they continue work on the game. For the tens of thousands now waiting on that inbox notification, the next move belongs to Sports Interactive.
