Sharkbite Burgers, an award-winning family-run burger spot celebrated for its towering smash burgers and loaded fries, will be the newest addition to HYS Food Hall in Cardiff city centre. The independent trader will join the line-up at the new food hall located in Cardiff's historic High Street Arcade.
From Cwmbran to Cardiff
Founded by Mark Williams, known as Sharky, and his partner Tash, Sharkbite began with a mission to craft the perfect burger. After extensive travels in search of burger perfection, the pair decided to create their own instead.
Since opening in Cwmbran in 2021, Sharkbite has built a loyal following of “Sharks”, drawn to its smashed stacks, loaded sides, and rotating specials. The brand now operates in Cwmbran, Newport, and at Platform Street Food in Cardiff Bay.
Award-Winning Recognition
Sharkbite has won and been nominated for several local and national food and community awards. Uber Eats named them Restaurant of the Year in 2025. The team also won Business of the Year at the Cwmbran Community Council Community Awards and are finalists for Burger Bar of the Year at the 2026 Food Awards Wales.
The menu features smash burger creations such as the Megalodon, Great White, and Goblin Shark. The Megalodon is a towering burger with four smashed beef patties, American cheese, and a choice of sauce on a toasted, seeded brioche bun. The Daddy Shark includes a smashed patty, American cheese, BBQ pulled pork, lettuce, crispy onions, and BBQ sauce, while the Great White is loaded with American cheese, crispy bacon, shredded lettuce, crispy onions, and burger sauce.
HYS Food Hall Development
HYS Food Hall is being developed by Loft Co, the team behind Goodsheds in Barry, Newport Market, Swansea's Albert Hall, and Platform Street Food in Cardiff Bay. The project will transform the historic arcade into a destination for eating, drinking, and socialising, featuring 14 independent kitchens, three bars, and seating for around 650 people across two floors.
Sharkbite Burgers joins Pizza Boyz as one of the first traders announced, with more independent food businesses expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. HYS Food Hall is aiming to open in late 2026, with further details and announcements to follow.
