A window and door fitting firm with sites in Dundee and Glasgow has collapsed after more than three decades of trading. Abacus Agents, established in 1991, was placed into compulsory liquidation recently, and insolvency practitioners BTG Begbies Traynor have been brought in to wind up the business.
At the time of the liquidators' appointment, the firm was said to have employed 20 members of staff, down from 26 in 2023. The business provided window and door hardware, adhesives, sealants and consumables for the building trade, particularly the glass and window industry, including partition doors, sliding patio doors, roof lanterns and flat glass rooflights.
Liquidators Appointed
Kevin Mapstone and Kenneth Craig of BTG Begbies Traynor were appointed as joint liquidators on October 2, 2026. A winding-up petition was presented to the Dundee Sheriff Court in October. A spokesperson for BTG Begbies Traynor said: "The liquidators have no comment to make publicly at this stage. They are focused on the process of conducting their duties and are in communication with creditors directly."
Details regarding the collapse are sparse, with Begbies Traynor unable to comment publicly "at this stage". According to the Companies House profile, the registered address has changed to the liquidators' address on Victoria Dock Road.
Premises and Operations
As of writing, Abacus Agents' website is still operational. However, The Courier recently visited its Faraday Street site in the Dryburgh Industrial Estate and found no visible activity. Shutters on the factory entrance and public reception trade centre areas were pulled down, and the company's vans and vehicles remained stationary in the car park.
Recent accounts confirm that the company had charges and a floating charge with Royal Bank of Scotland against its Dundee and Glasgow premises. Cross Hare Investments Ltd is listed as persons with significant control of Abacus Agents, who in turn list London-based Keep & Castle Holdings as owners. The majority owner of Keep & Castle Holdings is James Michael Trevett.
Financial Status and Wider Context
According to the Companies House profile, Abacus Agents also has overdue accounts from December 31, 2025 that were due on September 30, 2026. Its last accounts were dated December 31, 2025.
Numerous Scottish firms have faced difficulties throughout 2026, with insolvency cases across the country rising. Sectors ranging from home developing to the food industry have been affected. It comes just after the Daily Record reported that a fish and chips supplier located in Angus had also entered liquidation after almost 25 years. Directors of the business confirmed the move was made following a period of declining trade. Jon Dow Distribution, registered as J.D.R.B Ltd, initially traded from the Orchardbank Industrial Estate in Forfar, with Geoff Jacobs and Alistair McAlinden of Interpath appointed joint liquidators on October 26.
