Shoppers in Leeds have expressed shock and dismay after discovering that Home Bargains has already begun stocking Christmas decorations, despite the festive season being more than four months away. A photograph taken at one of the chain's outlets shows two aisles filled with tinsel, baubles, and Christmas cards, prompting a mixed reaction from customers.
Some shoppers described the early appearance of yuletide goods as 'depressing', with one social media user writing: 'Who allowed the lunatics to run the asylum?' Another frustrated customer commented: 'It's not even autumn yet. The summer holidays aren't even finished and they're selling Christmas stuff, it's depressing.'
Sarah Whitaker, a 35-year-old shopper from Leeds, said: 'We haven't had much of a summer, but there's no need to rub it in our faces that winter will be here soon. It's just a bit weird having Christmas decorations up in the seasonal aisle when there are other events in the calendar we haven't had yet, like Halloween.'
However, not everyone was critical. Some shoppers welcomed the early arrival of Christmas spirit, with one enthusiast saying: 'I got excited seeing Christmas decorations in Home Bargains yesterday. I'm a big kid when it comes to Christmas.'
