Wimbledon tennis fans have expressed shock and anger after discovering that a glass of Pimm's at the championships has risen in price once again, adding to the already high cost of a day out at the All England Club. The traditional gin-based drink now costs £13.45 per glass, up £1.20 from the previous year.
Price Hike Sparks Outrage
The increase was highlighted by X user Adam Addicott, who posted: "Bad news for those who like drinking Pimm's at Wimbledon. The price has been increased by £1.20 to £13.45 a glass!" The post drew a flurry of responses from disgruntled fans.
One user compared the price to supermarket costs, exclaiming: "It's £10 for a large bottle in Sainsbury's!" Another fumed: "The rich don't care. They'll pay whatever they're charged for Pimm's because they're there for the day out and experience even though the majority of them know anything about tennis."
Comparisons to Other Events
Some fans drew comparisons to other major sporting events. A third remarked: "And they said the World Cup was a rip off!" While a fourth commented: "Bought one last year for the experience, and never again."
Others offered money-saving tips. One X user wrote: "Not bothered as we take our own stuff." Another revealed: "£12 a glass at Queens recently, but nobody buys glasses, they all buy a jug. £38 a jug, that provides 6 glasses, so £6.33 a glass. Still expensive but not as bad." A third quipped: "They should open a Spoons [Wetherspoon pub] at Wimbledon."
Wimbledon's Drink Prices
Wimbledon has published its Tea Lawn Bar drinks price list online. Alongside Pimm's, a pint of Stella Artois costs £8.95, while 250ml servings of Saluti, Vino Bianca, and Vinicola Serena wines are priced at £13.10. For soft drinks, a bottle of Evian water costs £5, and a can of Coke Zero is £2.90.
The championships, which began on Monday June 29, feature top players including world number one Jannick Sinner and seven-time champion Novak Djokovic. Centre Court tickets range from £80 to £350, making a day at Wimbledon a significant expense for fans hoping to enjoy strawberries and cream alongside a glass of Pimm's.
