Pip's Sandwich and Sweet Shop in Wavertree is closing its doors today, Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after almost seven-and-a-half years of serving the local community. The Woolton Road takeaway and café premises have officially been put up for sale.
Owner's emotional farewell
Owner Carol-Anne Murphy said the decision to sell was “not made lightly” and thanked everyone who had supported the business. She expressed gratitude to both one-time visitors and regular customers who helped make Pip’s part of the local community and has since said it has been an "emotional rollercoaster".
Carol-Anne said creating a welcoming community hub had always been a dream, with customers becoming friends over the years. The shop also raised money for several charities during its time serving the community.
Farewell weekend and charity donations
Pip’s held a special farewell weekend on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, giving customers a chance to say goodbye. The events included a fundraising tombola, refreshments and a number of surprises in the “true style of Pip’s”.
Money raised from the farewell events is being donated to three charities: Alzheimer’s Society, Macmillan Cancer Support and CALM. The team said they wanted the final celebrations to continue Pip’s long-standing tradition of supporting good causes.
Final days of trading
In an emotional online message, the team apologised to anyone who had only just heard about the closure, explaining that everything had happened very quickly. They said every visit to Pip’s had been appreciated and had contributed to the shop’s community spirit.
The shop had been closed over the weekend of September 19 and 20 while the team were away on holiday. Before the final closure, Pip’s continued trading as usual, serving its breakfasts, homemade bakes and sweets while a buyer was sought.
Today marks the final day of trading for the much-loved Woolton Road shop, bringing nearly seven-and-a-half years of Pip’s to an end. The closure marks an emotional farewell for the customers, friends and wider community who have supported the business since it opened.
