Novel Wines, a UK wine retailer known for its unusual European bottles, has entered liquidation after more than a decade in business. According to The Gazette, Richard Cole and Stephen Kenny, both of KBL Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators for the company on September 18.
Business history and closure
The company was founded in April 2016, with a physical store opening in Bath in 2019. That shop closed five years later, with the brand focusing on online sales and wholesale customers.
Customers can no longer place orders on the company's website, which displays a message saying that changes are being made to the site. The site describes the business as an "award-winning wine merchant specialising in lesser-known quality wines and spirits."
Subscription service and customer contact
The company also operated a subscription service through its website called the Explorer's Club, aimed at "curious drinkers." The message currently presented on the website reads: "We're just making a few quick changes to the website so it's much easier for you to shop for great wines."
Customers are asked to contact the business by email as staff remain on hand to help. However, automated responses were received from Managing Director Will Hill and South West Area Manager Adam Lever, who have both left Novel Wines.
