New car registrations in the UK rose about 13% to more than 90,000 in August, according to preliminary industry data released on Friday. If confirmed when final figures are published at 9am, this would mark the highest total for an August in eight years.
Electric vehicle market share grows
The latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is also expected to show that battery electric vehicles accounted for around 30% of the market in August.
Additional industry data
Separate figures from New AutoMotive released on Thursday indicated a 17.5% jump in overall new car registrations for the month.
