Jake Wynne, the 27-year-old owner of gourmet healthy meal-prep service TruePlate, is preparing to open his first physical premises in Formby, taking over the space previously occupied by Vive on Chapel Lane. The move comes after Vive's owner, Demi Whittle, announced the closure of her business following "a lot of thought."
A Rapid Rise for TruePlate
Wynne, who grew up between Waterloo and Crosby and now lives in Aughton, launched TruePlate just over three months ago. The business, which focuses on healthy meals made from scratch, initially attracted around 40 orders in its first week, quickly increasing to around 100 orders with the help of Instagram posts.
Demand reached a new level when more than 650 meals were sold in just 18 minutes, a success that convinced Wynne to open a physical store so early in the business's life.
Vive's Closure and a New Chapter
Demi Whittle said: "Building this business has taught me more than I ever could have imagined and I'll always be proud of what I created but along the way, I realised I wanted more from life than constantly being consumed. I want my peace, time, balance and the freedom to actually enjoy my life and the people I have around me. While my chapter here is coming to an end, I couldn't be happier about who will be starting theirs in this space."
Vive's closure comes months after its sister site, Poke Superfood Bar on Sefton Street in the Baltic Triangle, shut up shop.
What TruePlate Offers
TruePlate combines the quality and techniques of fine dining with food accessible to everyday customers. The business offers a different menu every week, currently consisting of five meals. The food uses butcher-grade meat and is made without seed oils, with Jake making the sauces himself and preparing the majority of the food from scratch.
At present, five meals cost £40, with a £2 delivery charge. Customers can also order 10 meals for £75, again with a £2 delivery charge. Moving forward, from the new site, customers will be able to buy meals directly from fridges in the shop, while coffee and matcha will also be available.
Wynne said: "I've always been into the gym and I've always been the kind of person who would train before work or after work, but I didn't use to eat properly myself. So the idea was to create a healthy-eating brand that could hopefully get a few people eating better. From my own experience, I know how difficult it can be, so it's really for the people of Liverpool."
