Trader Joe's Drops 6 New Mini Totes May 20

Trader Joe's is gearing up for the warmer months with the launch of six new summer-themed mini insulated tote bags. The retailer announced the Summer Fun Mini Insulated Totes to The Independent on Thursday. Each bag has a 1.5-gallon capacity, a zipper top, and two reinforced handles.

Designs and Colors

Two of the six bags feature a striped design: one in red and pink, another in blue and green. The remaining four totes—available in orange, blue, green, or purple—showcase a silhouette of a Trader Joe's store next to palm trees.

Release Details

The mini cooler bags will hit stores nationwide starting May 20 and cost $3.99 each. A Trader Joe's spokesperson told The Independent: "Many of our customers have also found that they make quite a statement when used to carry your lunch along to school or work. Just be sure to pick up a Tote while you can—supplies are limited."

Previous Frenzy

Trader Joe's aesthetically pleasing mini totes have historically caused pandemonium in stores. The brand released its first line of mini insulated tote bags in 2024, which sold out rapidly. Within days, resellers listed them on eBay for nearly $50 per set. In 2024, the chain launched viral mini canvas tote bags in red, green, blue, and yellow for $3 each, becoming a status symbol on social media. Influencers customized them with paint, buttons, and embroidery, while customers waited hours in line.

2025 Comeback

In 2025, Trader Joe's brought back the mini canvas totes in pastel shades of blue, pink, purple, and green. They returned briefly in March but only for a limited time.

Expansion Plans

The new mini insulated totes arrive as Trader Joe's expands its business. The chain plans to open new stores across 12 states: California, Washington, Utah, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Kansas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Georgia, Arizona, and New Jersey. Since the start of 2026, it has already opened two new stores—one in Hamden, Connecticut, and one in Miller Place, New York. After adding nearly 100 stores in 2023 and 2024, the grocer now operates over 600 locations nationwide.
