TikTok User Reveals Hidden Shelf Mechanism at Tesco

A TikTok user has shared a simple trick that helps shoppers reach items at the back of Tesco supermarket shelves, leaving viewers astonished that the solution has been in plain sight all along. Fitness coach Liam Wilson uploaded a clip showing how to access a pull-tab mechanism behind the price label that brings the shelf forward.

In the video, filmed inside a Tesco branch in front of a shelf of bottled water, Wilson demonstrates the technique. He explains: "If you go and try and get a bottle and can't reach, all you've got to do is pull up this." He then tugs on a small tab behind the price label, causing a section of the shelf to lift and slide forward, bringing the bottle to the front. "Boom," he says. "I bet you did not know that. If you did, drop a comment below. If you didn't, drop a comment below."

Shoppers React with Amazement

The clip quickly garnered attention, with commenters expressing shock and gratitude. One wrote: "Thanks... I had no idea, I always asked someone taller to get it for me." Another added: "I actually did know, but only because I asked a worker to grab me a bottle and watched him do it. Now I'm an independent woman!"

A third user commented: "I only knew this because my Mrs worked at Aldi for six years. I was as amazed as you and now I show everyone who I see struggling to get the ones at the back and they're also gobsmacked." Even a Tesco employee admitted: "I work in Tesco... didn't know this."

Practical Impact for Shorter Shoppers

One grateful shopper wrote: "As a 5ft 2ins woman you've changed my life." Another joked: "Liam I've been 4ft 11ins for 20 years. Why would you only tell me this now?!" Some viewers noted they had previously resorted to climbing shelves or asking for help. The trick has been described as "top-tier information" and a game-changer for those who struggle to reach items.

One taller viewer offered a different perspective: "As a tall person I quite like feeling important when people ask me to help them tho." Another quipped using Tesco's famous tagline: "Cheers mate, every little helps!"
