Sainsbury's has become the latest supermarket to open Christmas delivery bookings, with its Delivery Pass customers able to reserve a slot from Friday, October 16. Other shoppers will have to wait until Friday, October 23 to book their Christmas groceries.
Delivery details and availability
Deliveries will be available from December 18 through to Christmas Eve, although popular dates are likely to be snapped up quickly. Customers can make changes to their orders until 11pm the day before their delivery is due.
Tesco and Asda booking windows
Tesco shoppers will have to wait until November to secure their Christmas delivery slots. Customers with an Anytime Delivery Saver plan will get first access from 6am on Tuesday, November 3. Those with a Click+Collect Delivery Saver plan will also be able to book collection slots that day. Bookings will then open to all customers on Thursday, November 5.
The supermarket will offer festive delivery and collection slots between December 20 and 24. Anyone ordering from Tesco's Festive Food to Order range will need to check out those items by 11.45pm on December 14.
Asda has already opened Christmas delivery bookings for customers with a Delivery Pass, with early access starting on Tuesday, October 13. Those without a pass will be able to book from Tuesday, October 20. The supermarket is offering delivery slots between December 21 and 23, with Christmas Eve slots expected to be released closer to the time.
Customers ordering from Asda's Food to Order range will need to finalise those items by December 15. However, changes to other groceries can still be made until 11pm the night before delivery.
Shopper guidance
MoneySavingExpert has reminded shoppers that delivery passes can give customers earlier access to Christmas slots, although they come with a cost. It is also worth checking minimum spend requirements and delivery charges before booking, particularly for households trying to keep Christmas spending down.
With the busiest delivery dates often proving popular, anyone hoping to avoid a last-minute supermarket trip may want to make a note of when bookings open.
