Tesco has introduced a fuel discount scheme at its petrol stations across the UK, offering customers 8p off per litre when they spend £60 or more in-store. The promotion runs until Sunday, October 18, with vouchers redeemable at participating Tesco forecourts.
The supermarket operates roughly 600 petrol stations nationwide. Shoppers who spend £60 or more in-store by the deadline will receive a voucher with their receipt, which can be used for 8p off per litre of petrol or diesel. The maximum saving per tank is £8.
Fuel prices hit record highs
The move comes as fuel prices have soared in recent months, with costs rising due to global market upheaval linked to the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. Prices have reached £2 a litre for the first time, prompting government ministers to attempt to calm public concerns over supply.
The previous record high was 199.09p, set in June 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Tesco's promotion aims to provide some relief to drivers, though the £8 cap is £2 lower than when the offer last ran in August.
How the voucher works
Customers have until Sunday, October 25 to use their fuel voucher by scanning it at the petrol station till. Payment must be made in person, so the voucher cannot be used at pay-at-pump facilities.
Given that the typical driver fills up 35 to 45 litres, most will save around £2.80 to £3.60. Tesco states that over 500 petrol stations are participating, with a locator available to find the nearest one.
Exclusions and terms
The offer excludes the Isle of Man, Tesco Express outlets where Esso fuel is sold, unmanned petrol stations, and pay-at-pump facilities. Customers are limited to one voucher per transaction and must purchase more than £1 worth of fuel.
The £60 minimum purchase excludes lottery tickets, e-top up, savings stamps, postage stamps, carrier bags, prescription medications, infant milk formula, and transactions at cafés, tobacco counters, opticians, mobile phone shops, concessions, Travel Money, Tesco Bank, and Tesco Whoosh. Online orders, including home delivery, Click and Collect, and Whoosh, do not qualify.
Tesco advises customers to use its outlet locator to confirm a manned kiosk will be operating at the time of their visit. Despite the offer, drivers may find cheaper fuel elsewhere, with free resources like PetrolPrices.com available to compare prices.
