Nintendo Switch 2 has dropped to its lowest price ever at two UK retailers, just weeks after Nintendo increased the console's official price. Argos and Smyths are both selling the console for £354.99, which is £65 cheaper than its new £419.99 price tag and even below its original £395.99 launch price.
The price cut comes after Nintendo raised the Switch 2's price earlier this month, citing ongoing memory shortages. The increase brought the console to £419.99, £24 more than its original cost, though the rise is smaller than those applied to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Retailers undercut new price
Argos accurately advertises the £354.99 price as the console's lowest ever, while Smyths matches the offer. Neither retailer is bundling any games with the console, but the deal still represents a significant saving. Smyths is also offering a carry case for £10, down from its usual £14.99, when bought with a Switch 2.
It is unclear whether this is an official price drop, as no other retailers are matching the discount. The next best price is at EE, where the console costs £368, followed by Currys and Very at £389.99.
Impact on holiday sales
The offers are expected to be snapped up quickly, especially by those looking to buy a Switch 2 for November's remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. The discount also makes the Switch 2 the most affordable current-gen console, compared with the PlayStation 5 at £519.99 and the Xbox Series X at £619.99.
Microsoft is unlikely to cut Xbox prices for the holiday season, as it has never done so despite falling sales, and hardware production appears to have slowed. Sony has no incentive to reduce PlayStation 5 prices either, given the upcoming release of GTA 6 in November, which is expected to drive console sales.
