Starbucks has confirmed that its viral Bearista Cup, which sparked brawls in the United States, will finally launch in the UK. The limited-edition glass cup, shaped like a teddy bear wearing a green beanie hat and holding a miniature Starbucks cup, will be available from 15 January.
The coffee chain announced the news on Instagram, writing: 'This is not a drill… see you 15.01.' To prevent the chaos seen in America, where customers camped overnight and fought over dwindling stock, Starbucks has imposed a strict rule: one cup per customer, while stocks last.
In the US, the cup retailed for $29.95 (around £22) but resellers have listed it on eBay for as much as $5,000. The UK price has not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to be similar. A Starbucks spokesperson told Metro: 'He’ll be popping up in stores only, but there won’t be many, so one per customer, and while stocks last.'
British customers have reacted with excitement and caution on social media. One Instagram user wrote: 'I’ve set my reminder… I’ll be there,' while another commented: 'I can’t believe we’re getting them too!!' However, some expressed concerns about potential chaos, with one user saying: 'I give it an hour before they’re on Vinted for £75.'
Starbucks has advised customers to check the app for availability, as the cup may not be available in all stores.
