Søstrene Grene has opened the doors to its third North East store, this time at Durham's Riverwalk. The homeware retailer, which made its North East debut at Newcastle's Eldon Square in August 2024, welcomed customers to its new Durham location on Friday.
A Scandinavian arrival in Durham
To mark the opening, the first 100 customers in the queue received a voucher for one of the brand's woollen throws, while other visitors enjoyed complimentary tote bags filled with selected Søstrene Grene products.
Mikkel Grene, Group CEO and Co-owner of Søstrene Grene, said: "It's always special to open a Søstrene Grene store in a new city and we're particularly pleased to be bringing our universe to Durham. We hope the new store will become a destination for those looking for something a little different, whether they're searching for a new craft project, something for the home or simply enjoying an afternoon of browsing. We look forward to becoming part of life in Durham and seeing what customers discover."
The 'hygge' shopping experience
Søstrene Grene embraces the Danish concept of 'hygge', creating a cosy and relaxed shopping environment with calming lighting and music, which invites customers to experience a sense of comfort and contentment whilst instore.
The Durham opening follows the retailer's stores in Newcastle city centre and Metrocentre, expanding its presence across the region with Danish crafts and homeware now available to Durham residents.
