Søstrene Grene, the family-owned Danish homeware brand, is closing its first-ever UK store in Nottingham this weekend. The shop, located in the Victoria Centre, opened in 2016 and will shut its doors for the final time on Sunday, September 13.
Redevelopment forces closure
A sign in the window tells customers: “We are sorry. Unfortunately, this store will be closing as the landlord is planning a redevelopment of the premises.”
The notice adds: “Please note that as we prepare for the closure, some items may no longer be available in the store and many items will be reduced in price.”
Limited stock and customer reaction
There is limited stock on display in the East Midlands store, with many shelves already empty ahead of the closure. The brand, often dubbed a 'little Ikea', has more than 330 stores across 17 countries, including two in central London.
The company was created by sisters Anna and Clara, focusing on their practical and creative loves. Customers have expressed disappointment at the news.
One shopper said on Facebook: “That’s so sad. Such a great shop, one of my favourites.”

The closure comes as one of the latest blows to the UK retail industry, as several stores continue to close daily.
