Sin City Social closes Smithdown Road site, goes delivery-only

Sin City Social, the burger and cocktail venture from the award-winning team behind Spitroast, has closed its restaurant on Smithdown Road in Liverpool. The brand, which opened in South Liverpool last year, is now available only through delivery platforms, with its food served from a delivery-only kitchen at The Big Sandwich Club.

One year on Smithdown Road

The venture offered "high-end burgers, cool cocktails and live music" from the unit previously occupied by Shake? on Smithdown Road. It welcomed its first customers on Friday, May 9, with 100 free burgers given away to mark the occasion.

At the time, Spitroast founder Adam Lunt told the ECHO: "The entire industry is struggling, so in order to continue growing the business, you have to keep teams motivated. I saw an opportunity to do something completely unique, but still a part of us."

Customers praised the burgers

Lunt described the planned venue as having "a cool, East Coast New York, lofty, industrial vibe," adding: "I want it to be dark and moody, and a place to go for cocktails in the evening or burgers during the day. It will be a really cool mix of aesthetics."

The ECHO previously reported that customers said the restaurant offered some of the "best burgers in the city." The Smithdown Road outlet has now been confirmed as closed.

Delivery-only future

Customers can still order the burgers from a delivery-only kitchen at The Big Sandwich Club. The sister Spitroast sites will continue to operate autonomously in their respective areas.

Adam launched Spitroast on Smithdown Road in 2014. The restaurant has been recognised with titles including 'Best Fast Food Restaurant' in the LuxLife Magazine Awards and a nomination for 'Best Chicken Restaurant' in Deliveroo's Takeaway Awards.
