The Silentnight Luxury Super Cosy Heated Throw, which costs from as little as 1p an hour to run, has been reduced to under £45 at several retailers in early Black Friday sales, and shopping writer Eve Rowlands says it has been her must-have winter staple for over a year.
With temperatures dropping in November, households are weighing up the cost of turning on the heating. Layering in jumpers or wearing coats and woolly hats indoors is one option, but personal heating gadgets offer an alternative. Rowlands, who says she feels the cold incredibly easily, has used the throw for the last year as her holy grail for staying warm.
Price and Features
At full price, the throw is £60, with running costs starting from about 1p an hour. In early Black Friday sales, it has been reduced at a number of retailers, including Amazon at £44, QVC at £39.95 and Very at £44.
Measuring 120 x 160 cm, the throw is large enough to cover two adults with space to spare. It has nine distinct heat settings, an easy-to-use controller, an automatic two-hour safety shut-off, and built-in HeatSafe overheat protection. It is machine washable and finished in a soft jacquard fleece.
Daily Use and Drawbacks
Rowlands notes that although the blanket switches off after two hours, it stays relatively warm for quite some time afterwards, which she says is ideal for use while working. As someone who works from home and is always chilly, she says it keeps her warm without needing to layer up and helps keep her heating bill down.
She also mentions that her cat, Winnie, will sit beside her whenever the blanket is on, taking up space on it, which she takes as a seal of approval since the cat is not normally snuggly.
The main drawback she identifies is that the wires that heat the blanket are quite obvious in its makeup, though she says this is not a major issue. She also notes that the warmth is not always consistent across the whole blanket, with one corner sometimes a little cooler than the rest, but again says this is not a serious problem.
