Shoppers queue for new Dunelm store at Welsh retail park

Shoppers queued around the block as Dunelm opened its new store at Mostyn Champneys Retail Park in Llandudno on Friday morning. The UK retailer has taken over the former Wilko unit, which closed three years ago.

First-Day Crowds and Promotions

The 15,000 sq ft store spans two floors and marked its opening with a number of first-day promotions that drew eager customers. One shopper told North Wales Live: "There was a huge queue, which I expected. The staff were handing out vouchers but by the time I got to the front of the queue they had all gone!"

The same shopper added that "golden tickets" were hidden inside the store for customers to find, saying: "I was looking in bread bins and baskets and everywhere but I didn't find one unfortunately."

Shopper Reactions and Store Details

She explained that the new branch would be more convenient than the Bangor store: "We go to the Dunelm shop in Bangor quite often but this will be handier for us. There is an upstairs floor at the Llandudno branch. But overall it is smaller than the Bangor store and there's no cafe."

Amanda Cox, chief operations officer at Dunelm, said: "We're thrilled to be bringing Dunelm to Llandudno. We're very excited about becoming part of the local community and giving customers the opportunity to discover our wide range of products."

Company Background

Emma Thomas, store coach at Dunelm Llandudno, added: "It's been amazing to see the store come together and there's a real sense of excitement among the great team we've got in place." Dunelm was founded in 1979 as a market stall in Leicester and has grown into a FTSE-250 business with 204 stores across the UK and Ireland.
