Several UK retailers are shutting branches this September, with confirmed closure dates for Marks & Spencer, Poundland and TG Jones.

Marks & Spencer café closures

The Marks & Spencer café at Merry Hill shopping centre in Brierley Hill is set to close on September 27 due to a renovation. It is scheduled to reopen on October 13 as a new format coffee shop.

M&S has also confirmed plans to permanently close 14 in-store cafés in 2026, including 13 sites in England and one in Scotland, although no exact dates have been confirmed. The supermarket said the closures are part of a store restructuring plan aimed at "providing more product choice and improving the shopping experience".

Poundland branch closures

Poundland is set to close two branches this autumn after failing to agree on ongoing leases. The retailer shut nearly 150 shops last year but said that "any future closures will be a consequence of standard business-as-usual lease events expected at a retailer with a large store network".

The Poundland branch at The Brewery in Romford closes on September 14, and the Courtenay Street store in Newton Abbot closes on October 10.

TG Jones closures and discounts

Retailer TG Jones, which replaced WHSmith, has confirmed the closure of 19 branches in September after announcing a restructure earlier this summer, with around 150 stores at risk. Closing-down sales have been launched, with shoppers able to get up to 30% off.

TG Jones stores closing include Bath on September 1, Redcar on September 5, Redhill on September 5, Market Harborough on September 12, Uckfield on September 12, Cambridge on September 14, Swindon on September 15, Helston on September 16, Deal on September 19, Basildon on September 21, Rustington on September 23, Clevedon on September 26, Greenford on September 26, Kenilworth on September 26, Southend-on-Sea on September 26, Exmouth on September 28, Frome on September 30, with Cardigan and Wells yet to be confirmed.
