Origin of the Name and History
The building was bought by a local businessman in the 1980s and was originally called the Adelphi Riverside, with a restaurant downstairs and a bar upstairs. The name changed in 1996 when a microbrewery was installed, though brewing ceased after about a year. The pub has remained a Salford fixture since.
Dean, who previously worked at the Stone Roses Bar in York for 13 years, took over the pub after a flat purchase in Deansgate fell through. He started in the industry while at university in York, working at a pub called the Gillygate.

Carlsberg is the best-selling drink, partly due to its £3 price from Monday to Thursday, with Guinness and cask ale also popular as the season changes. The pub has hosted unexpected guests, including a parrot, two ferrets, a rabbit named “Butters,” and a sheep. It also serves as a venue for the Sounds from the Other City festival.

Dean appreciates the mix of people, from students and young professionals to long-time regulars like Roy, who is 84 and has been coming since the pub opened. While there have been no haunted encounters, there are old eerie rooms with wallpaper from when the building was a school, and stories of tunnels beneath Adelphi Street.
Dean encourages people to support their local pub by showing up, even once a week, noting it's a social hub where you can meet people from different walks of life. The pub hosts free events like live music, quizzes, comedy nights, and pool tournaments.
