Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has placed his £10.5 million mansion in Kent on the market, a strong indication that he and his family have permanently relocated to Dubai. The seven-bedroom property, located in the exclusive gated community of Farnborough Park in Orpington, spans 12,500 square feet and sits on 20 acres of land. Estate agents describe it as a “truly prestigious family home.”
Family’s New Journey in Dubai
In August 2025, Rio, his wife Kate, and their children moved to Dubai, which he called a “new journey” for the family. The 47-year-old former footballer has praised his new life there, citing the lifestyle, safety, and weather as key benefits. However, the family faced challenges earlier this year when they had to shelter in their basement during drone attacks related to the Iran War. Rio described the experience as “frightening.”
Property Details and Price Surge
The mansion features a gym, seven bedrooms, two dressing rooms, a triple garage, a studio, and an office. Rio purchased the property for £2.7 million in 2008, meaning its value has more than tripled to £10.5 million. The listing on Rightmove highlights the home as an “architect-designed masterpiece” offering a rare opportunity in one of Greater London’s most desirable private estates.
Criticism of UK Tax Rises
In December, Rio condemned tax increases in the UK during an LBC Radio interview. He questioned whether tax revenues are effectively used for public services like the NHS, stating, “when there’s things that are falling apart… I sit there and go, we pay towards tax and is it really going towards the things that are actually benefiting the people that live here?”
Rio has also expressed that life in Dubai makes his family feel “valued.” He lives there with Kate, their children Cree (5) and Shae (2), and his daughter Tia (14). The family previously resided in a £7 million, 12,700-square-foot home in the Al Barari neighbourhood.
