Revolucion de Cuba Newcastle has closed its doors for good after eight years in the North East city. The restaurant announced the closure on Instagram, saying "it's time to say adios," and invited customers to a final 'fiesta' last Saturday.
Customers react to closure
Many customers expressed their sadness in comments on the Instagram post. One wrote: "Absolutely gutted, my absolute favourite place." Another said: "Some great memories in this place." A third commented: "You'll be a huge miss on the Newcastle scene."
The restaurant's message also read: "We have loved shaking your cocktails and creating unmissable parties and events over the years. We want to thank you for partying with us and hope you can join us for one last fiesta [26 September]. Any guests with bookings will be contacted in due course. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Gracias."
Parent company administration
The Revolucion de Cuba sites were part of the Revel Collective. Earlier this year, the Revel Collective closed 21 venues, resulting in 591 job losses, after collapsing into administration. Administrators said 14 Revolution Bars venues, six Revolucion de Cuba sites and one pub under its Peach Pubs division have closed.
These sites were not included in a sale of the group's brands and assets, which secured the future of 41 sites and 1,582 jobs. FTI Consulting have been brought in as administrators for the pub and bar operator, which said it has struggled against rising costs and weaker consumer spending, particularly among its younger clientele.
Future of the Newcastle site
It is understood that the Newcastle site is set to become an après-ski-themed bar, Barbara's Bier Haus, later this year.
