Prime Day rivals: 6 deals from Coop, Brooklinen, J Crew and more

As Amazon holds its Prime Day sale on 6 and 7 October, other retailers are competing with their own discounts on products previously recommended by the Guardian's Filter. These sales do not require a visit to Amazon's homepage.

Six deals stand out, from plastic-free cutting boards to an adjustable neck pillow.

Footwear and accessories

Sam Edelman's Michaela Mary Jane Flats are now $75, down from $140, a 40% discount. The minimalist flats were recommended by Moya Leung, a marketing professional, in the Guardian's guide to the best women's office shoes. “They pair well with everything from slacks to jeans to dresses, and the color adds a bit of personality,” she said.

J Crew's Printed Silk Scarf is now $70, reduced from $80. The 100% silk scarf in the smoked walnut shade was tested by a writer, who added it to a basic white tee and jeans. The rich brown shade is currently $10 off, just in time for fall.

Home and kitchen essentials

Coop's Adjustable Neck Pillow is now $72, down from $80, a 20% discount available until 9 October. The pillow has sat atop Filter contributor Kori Perton's bed for years. “I have spent the nights since sleeping on my Coop pillow, my neck cradled in its soft, memory-foam-and-microfiber embrace,” she writes.

John Boos Maple Cutting Board (R-Board Series) is now $30, down from $37, a 20% discount (applied in cart) available until 13 October. Marian Bull, a Filter contributor, tested 10 plastic-free cutting boards and named this her overall favorite. “For $60, this wood cutting board is sturdy, well-constructed and easy to use. I also loved the rounded edges, which made it easy to handle,” writes Bull, who has used it for years.

John Boos 3-Piece All-Natural Care & Maintenance Set is now $40, down from $50, part of the brand's 20% off site-wide sale (discount in cart). The care products, including board cream and oil, can prolong the life of wooden cutting boards, which can crack or warp over time.

Bath textiles

Brooklinen Bath Towel is now $93, down from $109, a 20% discount available until 7 October. Tester Jon Chan praised the towel after testing more than a dozen. “These towels aren't only for show. When using it to dry myself, the Brooklinen glided across my skin,” he said.

These deals are part of the Filter, the Guardian's guide to buying fewer, better things, which is celebrating its first birthday with a list of 25 reader favorites.
