Pigalos closes in North Shields, owners devastated

Pigalos, a North Shields restaurant that gained a loyal following and viral fame for its Chicago thin and crispy pizzas, has closed permanently. The owners, Aaron and Adam, announced the decision on Facebook on Thursday evening, expressing they were 'beyond devastated' to let go of their dreams.

Restaurant's rise to fame

Pigalos opened on Nile Street in 2021 and quickly became a must-visit spot, with food influencers travelling from afar to sample its offerings. The restaurant featured on Come Dine With Me: The Professionals and earned a 9 out of 10 rating from Matt, founder of Food Review Club, who said: 'This for me ticks every box. My mouth, my brain and my heart.'

Recent expansion and closure

In autumn 2025, Pigalos expanded by taking over the kitchen at Louis' Liquor Store on Bigg Market in Newcastle city centre. While that location continues, the Nile Street site has shut. The owners' Facebook post stated: 'It is with a heavy heart we have now closed Pigalo’s North Shields permanently. This was an incredibly difficult decision, reached only after exploring every possible option.'

Tribute to staff and appeal

Aaron and Adam paid tribute to their team, calling them 'talented, hardworking people who would be an asset to any team.' They appealed to other local businesses to consider hiring their former employees. The post added: 'To our customers: thank you for supporting us, recommending us, celebrating with us, and keeping us going for as long as we did. Your loyalty meant more than you know.'

Customer reactions

Regulars expressed sadness and support in comments. One wrote: 'But but but.... The deep dish pizzas are just the best! Sorry to see you go, you'll certainly be missed.' Another said: 'That’s such a shame, we really enjoyed your food but if we need to go to town, to support you we will.'
