Nike Air Max 95 Liverpool release draws overnight queues at JD

Huge queues formed overnight in Liverpool One outside JD Sports ahead of the exclusive release of the new Nike Air Max 95 Liverpool trainer, with those at the front waiting more than a day for a pair.

The limited edition “Liverpool” Air Max 95 was created especially for the brand as part of the retailer’s second annual 1.10 Day, which takes place today, Thursday, October 1.

Design inspired by Liverpool’s heritage

The design puts a distinctly Scouse spin on one of Nike’s most popular trainers, drawing inspiration from Liverpool’s architecture, waterfront, heritage and local identity.

The colourway combines Rust Factor and Steam, with Rust Factor paying tribute to the red brick dock buildings that have shaped the city’s waterfront, while Steam takes inspiration from the Liver Bird.

There are also a number of hidden Liverpool references throughout the shoe. The sock liner features a map of the docklands and River Mersey, while the outsole has “SCOUSE” across the sole. That detail is a nod to a well known and highly sought-after unreleased Air Max 95 sample, which featured the same word.

Hidden details and queue stories

The tongue logo combines Air Max and Liverpool through a split graphic, bringing together the original Air Max structure with the city’s name. Inside the tongue, “0151” has been embroidered as another nod to Liverpool – referencing the city’s telephone area code.

The result is a trainer designed to tell a story about Liverpool through every detail, rather than simply offering a new colourway.

First in line for the shoes was Dean. He told the ECHO he had been waiting in the queue for two days. He added: “It feels absolutely amazing lad. They are one of the best trainees to come out this year. The gradient is absolutely amazing - you've got brick work on one side and the Liver building colour on the other.”

“On top of that, you've got the map of the Mersey included. It's been an eventful few days. I've met some top lads. Me and my little group stuck together and we've had a laugh as we always do. Even if there wasn't a big hype around them, I'd still camp out. I do it for the love of the 110s, not just for collecting them.”

Behind Dean was Evan Keeble, 18, from the L25 area. He said: “I've been here since Tuesday, 5pm. I got wet last night but I chilled through it. I've not slept in two days but it was well worth it. They are going to be put straight on my feet after this interview. There's no other city out there like Liverpool which does things like this.”
