Large crowds are expected in Newcastle city centre on Monday afternoon and evening as Eldon Square hosts its annual student takeover event, a one-night-only occasion that is set to attract a swarm of people.
With summer over, the nights drawing in and Christmas items already in shops, the return of students marks the end of September. Returners are ready to start another academic year while freshers arrive in Newcastle for the first time to begin life at Newcastle or Northumbria University.
Students out in force again
Earlier this month, queues stretched down the street on a typically quiet Monday night as students lined up for the return of the popular Tropiloco party. On Monday, September 28, students will be out in force again as Eldon Square hosts its once-a-year event, which is a must for the city's student community.
The event, running from 2.30pm to 7.30pm, is free but attendees must pre-register for an e-ticket. Those who register will be entered into a draw to win a £500 Eldon Square gift card.
Discounts and giveaways on offer
Giveaways during the event include free Wingstop chicken, Greggs vouchers, matcha, popcorn and candy floss while stocks last. Available deals include 50% off at Smash Burger and Chit ‘N’ Chaat restaurants, while Chaophraya offers a 40% discount. Among the shops, Levi’s will have 25% off and there will be 20% off at Schuh, Hollister and River Island.
