Mum's dish soap trick removes 'years' of dirt and stains from your sofa
Mum's dish soap trick removes years of dirt and stains from sofa

An American mum has shared a simple sofa-cleaning hack using a dishwasher tablet and hot water, which she says can remove 'years worth' of grime from a settee. Guncha Eyeberdiyeva, who has over 10,000 Instagram followers, demonstrated the method in a video, claiming: 'Your vacuum can't do this with your couch.'

How the hack works

In the video, Eyeberdiyeva chopped up a Fairy dishwasher tablet with a blade and poured the contents into a bowl of hot water. She stirred the solution until the powder fully dissolved, then dipped a rag into the mixture.

After thoroughly soaking the cloth, she wrung it out to remove surplus liquid, preventing it from dripping onto the sofa. She then wrapped the cloth around a pan and secured it firmly with a knot at the handle before scrubbing the improvised cleaning implement across her sofa repeatedly.

Reaction and advice

Eyeberdiyeva was astonished by the volume of dirt that lifted away. She advised testing the mixture on a hidden area of the sofa first to ensure it doesn't damage the fabric.

Viewers praised the hack, with one person remarking: 'It really works.' Another wrote: 'Very simple but super effective trick.' Others commented: 'Can't wait to give this a go,' 'Great idea, thanks for sharing,' and 'Amazing used it on my carpet.' One viewer suggested: 'Vinegar and dish soap works too with water.'
