Marks & Spencer has revived its wildly popular Red Diamond Strawberry & Creme Sandwich, which sold 75,000 units in its first five days last year, and introduced a new Chocolate, Strawberry & Pistachio Creme Sandwich. The original Japanese-inspired sando caused such a frenzy that Foodhalls sold out almost instantly upon release.
New Chocolate and Pistachio Variant
The new chocolate version features cocoa-enriched sweetened bread, a layer of smooth pistachio creme, Fairtrade Belgian dark chocolate sauce, and sliced British strawberries. The classic Red Diamond sandwich, made with 'the UK's sweetest strawberries' and whipped cream cheese on fluffy sweetened bread, is priced at £2.80, while the new pistachio variant costs £3.50.
Shopper Reactions
Reactions on social media have been mixed. Instagram user @misslondoncy exclaimed, 'Lord, have mercy!' while @milo_mimi_and_me called it 'divine'. However, some critics described the chocolate version as 'wrong on every level', 'deranged', and 'grim'. Both sandwiches are available for a limited time only.
Review of the Original
Metro's Courtney Pochin, who tried the original strawberry sandwich in June 2025, described it as 'fun' but not groundbreaking. 'It’s a super fun twist on the classic summer pairing and makes for a quirky lunch or dessert,' she wrote, noting the soft bread, generous creamy filling, and non-mushy strawberries. Her main criticism was that it would be better as a cake sandwich. She concluded, 'Anyone who claims it’s the best thing they’ve ever eaten is probably just overhyping it for social media likes.'
Other New M&S Products
M&S has also launched two new sweet dips: a Strawberry & Cream Dip (£3.25) combining whipped cream, full-fat soft cheese, and Greek-style yoghurt with strawberry compote, and a Chocolate & Pistachio Dip (£3.75) featuring Italian and Belgian chocolate ganache, pistachio creme, and crushed pistachio pieces.
