M&S recalls hand painted jug over glass breakage injury risk

Marks and Spencer has recalled a hand painted jug because the glass may break during use, posing a risk of injury. The retailer has withdrawn the item from the market and is urging customers to stop using it immediately.

Product details and recall notice

The recalled product is a blue tinted jug with painted leaf decorations, model number T34/9829D, made in China. It is no longer available for sale. Customers who have purchased the jug are asked to return it to any M&S store, excluding Outlets or Franchise stores, for a full refund.

In its warning notice, M&S stated: "We have identified a potential safety issue with this product as there is a risk of glass breakage resulting in injury. We recommend that you stop using this product immediately." The notice also said: "The product is no longer available for sale. Please return this product to any M&S store (excl. Outlets or Franchise stores) for a full refund."

OPSS warning and regulatory action

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) also issued a warning, saying: "The product presents a risk of injuries as the glass may break during use, leading to injuries. The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005."

The OPSS added: "The product has been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users by Marks & Spencer. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and return it to any Marks & Spencer’s store for a full refund."

M&S advised customers with further questions to contact Customer Services via the website or on 0333 014 8434. The retailer apologised for any inconvenience caused.
