Part of Swansea's former Marks & Spencer store will live on in the city centre after the retail giant donated its cafe tables and chairs to a local church. The iconic store on Oxford Street closed permanently on May 30, drawing hundreds of emotional customers who left flowers, messages, and took photos in scenes reminiscent of a funeral.
Donation to Swansea Minster
The furniture has found a new home at Swansea Minster, formerly St Mary's Church, located at St Mary's Square in the city centre. A spokesman for the minster expressed gratitude: 'Swansea Minster is delighted to extend its heartfelt thanks to Marks & Spencer for their generous donation of café tables and chairs. This kind gift will make a real difference to the welcome we are able to offer visitors and guests, helping our café space feel comfortable, inviting and ready to serve our community.'
Arthur Llewellyn Jenkins assisted with the transportation of the furniture, a task that required significant effort. The spokesman added: 'We are also enormously grateful to Arthur Llewellyn Jenkins for their kind assistance with the transportation and porterage of the furniture. Moving items of this kind is no small task, and we are thankful for the time, effort and care that made it possible. Donations and support such as these are at the heart of all we do here at the Minster, and we could not continue our work without the generosity of friends and partners across Swansea.'
