M&S Named UK's 'Home of Picky Bits'
Marks & Spencer has been officially crowned the UK's 'Home of Picky Bits' following new research from YouGov. The survey found that 44% of shoppers consider M&S their go-to supermarket for summer nibbles, grazing platters and picky teas. To mark National Picky Bits Day on Saturday, 27th June, the retailer has cemented its reputation as the leader in this category.
The research also revealed that 43% of M&S customers enjoy a picky tea at least once a week. With the current heatwave, the trend is expected to spike further as shoppers seek easy, shareable meals for warm weather.
Top-Selling New Products
M&S's latest launches have proven extremely popular this summer. The Mini Fuet has already sold 132,000 packs, while the Buttermilk Ranch Dip has become a standout success, with 120,000 pots sold. These US-inspired buys are riding high on the back of the World Cup and a summer of sport, driving demand for bold, dip-friendly snacks.
Loaded dips are also seeing a surge, thanks to the rise of 'snackification' – a trend where shoppers opt for more elevated options to impress on their grazing platters. New launches including M&S's Topped Mezze Dip and Topped Chicken Dip are fueling this movement.
Social Media Buzz and Viral Hits
M&S has built a reputation for spotting food trends early, regularly releasing products that quickly go viral on social media. The Strawberry and Pistachio Cream Sandwich, launched this week, is already generating significant online buzz. According to the retailer, such viral hits are a key driver of its picky bits dominance.
To celebrate National Picky Bits Day, singer Diana Vickers and best friend Chiara 'Ki' Hunter have reunited for a new version of their viral Picky Bits song, complete with a music video filmed inside an M&S Foodhall. The campaign underscores the cultural phenomenon around picky bits in Britain.
'Britain's picky bits obsession is only just getting started,' a spokesperson for M&S said, highlighting the retailer's commitment to innovation in this category.
