Marks & Spencer is selling a £68 Suedette Collared Peplum Utility Jacket that shoppers are comparing to a designer piece from Bottega Veneta, with some calling it a dupe. The jacket is currently the retailer's number one best-seller, according to social media posts.
Shoppers spot the resemblance
In a video posted last week by @_yourclosetcrush, user @oliviajewellholder commented: “Literally have this in my basket!! It’s giving Bottega dupe.” Another user, @ejapplegate, wrote under a TikTok post by @laurmitchell: “Oh BOTTEGA VIBES.”
While the two jackets look similar, they are made from different materials. The M&S version is 100% polyester, excluding trimmings and the woven collar, whereas the £4,960 Bottega Veneta Suede Leather Blouson is made from full-grain suede leather with its signature Intrecciato leather collar.
Stylist praise and alternatives
Celebrity stylist Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe, known as Melissa’s Wardrobe on social media, said in an M&S Instagram reel that the jacket is “the perfect jacket to take us into the next season.” She added: “this jacket is of dreams and I’m definitely going to buy it.”
For shoppers seeking other budget-friendly options, Very’s Contrast Collar Patch Pocket Barn Jacket is reduced to £19.50 from £65. It features a contrasting faux-leather collar, two patch pockets and a quilted lining. River Island also offers a Belted Long Sleeve Suedette Shirt in brown for £28.75, with a soft suedette finish and belted waist.
