Morrisons to Reopen Meat and Fish Counters at 13 UK Stores After Backlash
Morrisons Reopens Meat and Fish Counters at 13 UK Stores

Morrisons has announced it is relaunching its meat and fish food counters in 13 stores across the UK after facing customer backlash over their removal last year. The supermarket chain had closed 70 meat and fish counters in 2025, along with 52 cafés, 13 florists, four pharmacies, and all 18 branches of its Market Kitchen format. However, the retailer has now confirmed that selected stores will see their traditional Market Street counters return, with five locations already operational and a further eight set to reopen in the coming months.

Customer Feedback Drives Reversal

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “Our Market Street counters are part of our DNA. They are at the heart of our offer and a real differentiator for Morrisons. We closed a small number of meat and fish counters last year - and have learned a lot from that. We have listened to customers and are now planning to re-open a number of these over the coming months.” The spokesperson added that customers can look forward to having skilled butchers and fishmongers back in store to prepare meat and fish just the way they like it.

New Counter Features and Efficiency

The reopened counters will incorporate flatbeds and grab-and-go options, as well as lessons learned on yield and waste over the past twelve months, to make them more efficient while delivering the traditional counter service customers love. Morrisons has not confirmed whether all 70 previously closed counters will eventually return but said more locations could be announced in the future.
