Morrisons shoppers have been left stunned by the price of a giant 4.5kg Toblerone bar currently on sale at the supermarket, with many blaming the cost of living crisis. The enormous chocolate bar, which measures 80cm in length, is priced at £80, but customers can purchase it for £50 using the retailer's More Card loyalty scheme.
Social Media Reaction
The discovery was made by the popular food account New Foods UK, which shared a photograph of the chocolate bar on sale with the caption: "Huge 4.5kg Toblerone spotted at Morrisons." The post quickly attracted a flurry of comments, with many shoppers expressing disbelief at the price.
One person exclaimed: "It was £80? Where's the Panorama documentary?" Another added: "What in the cost of living crisis is going on here? 50 English pounds, lord have mercy." A third chimed in: "It's still at least £40 overpriced, even with the reduction!" A fourth simply probed: "£50?!"
Despite the Cost, Some Are Keen
Despite the widespread astonishment over the cost, some shoppers were still keen to get their hands on one. One person wrote: "That looks amazing. Definitely need to add this to my shopping list."
Where Else to Buy
Morrisons appears to be the only UK supermarket currently stocking the giant 4.5kg bar in-store. However, those wanting to purchase the 80cm-long bar can arrange home delivery through Amazon UK, Cadbury Gifts Direct, and Wholesale Sweets/Hancocks. Amazon typically prices the giant bar at around £72.79, while Cadbury Gifts Direct offers it for approximately £85. Confectionery wholesalers Wholesale Sweets/Hancocks sell it to the public or businesses for between £82.79 and £95.29.
History of the Giant Bar
Morrisons originally introduced the enormous bar as a viral attention-grabber for its Black Friday 2017 shopping event. What began as a scarce novelty item has since become a regular seasonal offering due to its overwhelming success. Rather than being available year-round, the brand now releases it as a limited-edition gift for key UK celebrations, primarily Father's Day, which occurs this month, and Christmas as the perfect stocking filler.
