Morrisons has announced a new initiative allowing eligible customers to claim complimentary fruit over the next three weeks. The promotion, revealed on Wednesday, June 10, coincides with the FIFA World Cup as millions of supporters prepare for the tournament.
Free Oranges for Children on Match Days
The supermarket chain is adding a fruity element to summer football festivities by offering children completely free oranges. In a nostalgic tribute to the traditional grassroots football ritual of orange segments at half-time, kids visiting English or Scottish Morrisons stores can claim a complimentary orange on England and Scotland match days during the group stages.
Exact Dates for the Promotion
The fruity giveaway officially launches on June 14 for Scotland's opening fixture, with subsequent offerings on June 19 and 24. England supporters can collect oranges during key matches on June 17, 23, and 27, reports the Mirror.
This is not the first time the retailer has catered to younger customers. The tournament promotion builds on Morrisons' established programme of distributing free fresh fruit to children across all its supermarkets, which has been operating since 2018 to support families in achieving their five-a-day target.
A spokesperson said: "Whether the family is screaming at the telly from the sofa, throwing a wild match-day party, or the kids are chasing their own football glory in the back garden, Morrisons is making sure young supporters stay match-ready. The oranges will be available to little shoppers on Morrisons Market Street on select dates while stocks last."
Welsh supporters will not miss out either. Customers visiting Morrisons stores in Wales can collect free fruit for children at their local Market Street as usual.

Health Benefits of Oranges
Oranges are an excellent and highly nutritious choice for children, packed with vital nutrients that support a growing body. Well known for their high Vitamin C content, oranges help protect against colds and assist with wound healing. The natural fibre in oranges relieves constipation, while their water content helps keep children hydrated. Vitamin C also supports the body's ability to absorb plant-based iron, sustaining energy levels and warding off fatigue. Oranges provide potassium, calcium, and phosphate, all vital for healthy bone development and cardiovascular health.
Jacob Uren, Senior Citrus Trader at Morrisons, said: "Encouraging children to enjoy fresh fruit has long been important to us at Morrisons, and orange slices are such a nostalgic part of football culture. We hope our free oranges help keep little fans refreshed, energised and ready to cheer on England and Scotland this summer."
