Molly-Mae Hague's collaboration with Adidas nearly broke the internet, with fans scrambling to get her drink-inspired trainers. The influencer and business owner released two styles: a matcha-green Samba and a latte-themed Superstar II. Both sold out quickly, leading to high resale prices. However, one fashion influencer has found a way to achieve the look for a fraction of the cost.
The DIY Dupe
TikTok user Lauren (@its_laurensarah) shared a simple hack to recreate the matcha Samba style using genuine Adidas shoes. She purchased the Adidas Breaknet Sleek Shoes in green, which cost £55 at Decathlon or £49.50 from M&S. She then added baby pink laces from Amazon, priced at £4.97, bringing the total to as little as £54.45. By threading the pink laces halfway and re-adding the white laces, she achieved a look similar to the sold-out collaboration.
Why This Works
Lauren explained: "The Molly Mae Matcha Sambas sold out almost instantly, and if you didn't get your hands on them, then let me show you how to DIY them with actual Adidas shoes. Because the resale prices are ridiculous, whereas these will cost you £62 all in." She noted that the Breaknet Sleek shoes are comfortable and always in stock, making them a reliable alternative.
Fan Reactions
Fans praised the hack, with one commenting: "Gatekeep those breaknet’s, they are so comfy & if Adidas find out we love them they will hike the price up like the sambas." Another said: "Schuh sells the breaknet’s btw they’re so much comfier than samba’s." The dupe offers a budget-friendly way to enjoy the trendy aesthetic without supporting resellers.
For those still hoping to buy the original, a few sizes of the Matcha Green Samba remain on the Adidas website, while the Superstars have only larger sizes available. But for most, the DIY version provides a smart alternative.
