The Lucy Pittaway gallery and store in Newcastle city centre has closed. The nearest branch is now in Yarm, around 45 miles away and an hour's drive from the city centre.
Prime Location Opposite Grey's Monument
Award-winning artist Lucy Pittaway opened the gallery and store in a prime location opposite Grey's Monument in November last year. The shop offered something different from neighbours like Boss, Reiss and The White Company. It was Lucy's eighth venue across the North of England, joining flagship stores in York, Harrogate, Keswick, Bowness, Yarm, Richmond and Brompton-on-Swale.
What the Store Offered
The Newcastle branch allowed customers to browse Lucy's contemporary art, including new pieces celebrating the North East, and purchase unique gifts such as mugs, stationery and homeware. Artwork featured North East landmarks like Sycamore Gap, Bamburgh Castle, the Tyne Bridge and Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge.
Closure Notice
A notice on the doors at Monument stated that the store 'has now closed' and directed customers to the nearest store in Yarm. The closure comes a week after ChronicleLive reported on BOSS shutting down, though BOSS still has a concession in Fenwick and a store at the Metrocentre.
