The director of Scale Liverpool, Sonny McCartney, has announced the closure of both Scale Liverpool and Fabric Studios after eight years, citing rising costs and expressing deep regret for the impact on couples and clients.

In a statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday, August 4, McCartney said the decision was recent and not planned, saying they had fought hard to keep the spaces open. The venues, located at The Tapestry in Kempston Street, include a converted warehouse used as a photography studio and wedding venue, plus Fabric Studios, a 4,000-square-foot creative space.
The closure follows an earlier email to brides that said both studios would close at the end of July 2026.
Statement from the director
McCartney wrote: “With a heavy heart, today we're announcing the closure of both Scale and Fabric Studios after eight wonderful years. We're gutted, honestly. This isn't a decision we've been quietly planning for months; it's happened very recently, and it's hit us hard.”
He added: “This wasn't our choice. We fought hard to keep both spaces open for as long as we possibly could, and tried everything we could think of. But rising costs, driven by the current government's policies, have left us and a lot of other businesses like ours, with nowhere left to go.”
Impact on community and clients
McCartney described the venues as “a family, a community, a village” and thanked everyone who supported them. He acknowledged the upset caused to couples and parties with bookings, saying: “We know this news brings real upset, especially for the couples, the parties, and everyone else with a booking who's now affected by our sudden closure. We haven't taken that lightly.”
