Liverpool queues for £180 Nike Air Max 110s as fans camp overnight

The release of the new Nike Air Max 95, known locally as 110s, brought huge queues to Liverpool city centre, with die-hard fans camping overnight to get their hands on the exclusive items. The shoe went on sale today (Thursday, October 1) as JD Sports marked the second annual 1.10 Day, with the release of a new colourway created exclusively for the retailer.

Design inspired by Liverpool

The new colourway brings together Rust Factor and Steam, taking inspiration from two defining elements of the city. Rust Factor is a tribute to the red-brick dock buildings that have shaped Liverpool's waterfront, while Steam takes inspiration from the Liver Bird.

There are also hidden details throughout the shoe, designed with Liverpool in mind. The sock liner features a dockland and River Mersey map alongside the Rust Factor and Steam tones that define the colourway. The outsole also has "SCOUSE" across the sole, a nod to a well known and highly sought-after unreleased Air Max 95 sample that carried the same detail. The tongue logo brings together Air Max and Liverpool through a split graphic, putting together the OG Air Max structure with the city's name.

Overnight queues and early opening

The queue began yesterday with people arriving with camping chairs and tents to endure the long wait. The JD Sports store opened at 8am with purchases staggered by a small quantity at once. People started queuing from 4pm yesterday, with the queue wrapping around JD Sports and along Wall Street.

Those in line included everyone from 15-year-old school boys to 75-year-old mums, with some travelling from further afield. Barry Harkness travelled all the way from Scotland, while Helen Davis queued to purchase the shoes for her son. There was a special edition ECHO newspaper for everyone in store.
